Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
