The vaping figures are an approximation since some states - 109 in total, and many in Africa and South-East Asia - do not gather data.

Per the study, as of recent February this year, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette consumers were grown-ups, primarily in developed states.

And at minimum 15 million adolescents aged 13 and 15 already vape, according to studies from 123 countries.

While several states have tried to establish e-cigarette regulations to combat youth vaping in the past few years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations yet had no measure in operation, and 74 states had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be bought, says the medical body.

Meanwhile, tobacco usage has been declining - from an approximated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Prevalence of tobacco usage among women dropped the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of grown-ups worldwide yet consumes tobacco.

Tobacco use is linked to many illnesses, including cancer.

Experts state vaping is far less damaging than tobacco products, and can assist you stop smoking. It is discouraged for non-smokers.
