Harvard ex-president Summers Leaves from AI Company's Directors

Board Resignation
The former official announced he would step back from public positions after Congressional panel released his frequent communications with Epstein

Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is leaving the governing body at the artificial intelligence firm, just several days after a series of digital correspondence between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became publicly available.

The economist stated in an announcement that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have served, optimistic about the promise of the organization, and eagerly await following their development".

Summers, who once led Harvard University, stated on earlier this week that he would be scaling back from public responsibilities due to his connections with the convicted sex offender.

Digital Correspondence

The freshly disclosed emails showed that Summers exchanged messages with Jeffrey Epstein until the eve of his 2019 arrest for suspected trafficking of minors.

In another announcement, the artificial intelligence company stated it understood the economist's choice to depart.

"We value his significant contributions and the insight he offered to the governing body," the company remarked.

Congressional Action

This development arrives after the entire Congress of the US legislature agreed on Tuesday to pass a bill that would mandate the Department of Justice to disclose its documents on Jeffrey Epstein.

The bill will then proceed to the desk of the White House for signature. Trump has stated he intends to endorse the measure, after modifying his position on the matter following pushback from his supporters.

Email Contents

A group of financier-linked messages made public by the Congressional committee last week mentioned several prominent individuals in the financier's previous network, without implying any criminal activity by those individuals.

The communications revealed that the economist and Epstein regularly had dinners together, with he often trying to link the academic to notable world leaders.

Personal Accountability

After the messages were shared with the public, the former official said he assumed "full responsibility for my ill-advised judgment to maintain communicating with Jeffrey Epstein".

He continued that he desired "to reestablish trust and repair connections with the people most important to me".

Career Background

The economist occupied high-level positions under party leaders; serving as economic leader under the former president, and as leader of the National Economic Council under Barack Obama.

He led the institution from five years and remains a faculty member there. When declaring his withdrawal from public duties recently on Monday, he said he would continue his academic responsibilities.

Additional Consequences

Following the economist's declaration on earlier this week, the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning policy institute in Washington where Summers was a senior fellow, verified that he was ceased to be associated with the group.

The former official joined the directorate of OpenAI, which creates ChatGPT, in the previous year - following a unsuccessful effort to oust its chief executive the company leader.
