Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in prison, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a document approving the custody, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on the previous day: Will you battle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so supporters could "pray for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our country."

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, President Lula.
